Mom's kindergarten blues

So, today was the big day.

His first (half) day out in the big bad world without me.

His first opportunity to get really, really lost.

His first chance to wear his rocket pants, his Batman shirt, and his spider backpack - all at the same time.

His first chance to be the odd man out.

His first chance to fail without me there to help him.

His first chance to be uncool, and to know it.

His first chance to rise above it all, and dare anyone at Madison Elementary not to fall in love with him, the same way I have since the day he was born almost 5 years ago.

That's Devlin, "with an L after the V". I think he's going to be just fine.

Ah, the first day of school! What a big kid! Can't wait to hear how he does!

BTW, how's that minivan? :)

Awww Rachel, your gonna make me cry!! It is crazy how fast the time has gone by!! It just seems like yesterday that we were counting the days down until our little boys were born. I hope Devlin has a super 1st day of Kindergarten. Can't wait to hear all about it. I'm sure he did great.

Go big man, go! Love you, Dev.

BTW, Heidi - the minivan is fantastic. And those are definitely words I never thought I'd say. :)

I have a feeling he is going to do just great! Can't wait for a Granny report.

Great picture Rachel. What a cute boy. Good luck Dev as you start this great adventure.

Awww! Go Dev!!! Show em what you got!!!

What an adorable picture! What a sweet post for your big 1/2 day kindergarten kid. Ry's doin' the same, and it's nuts! But you've gotta love the way they glow with excitement. :)

I was on the September Sprouts board with you (and March 2006) and I can't believe that our babies are starting school this year. I hope Devlin has a great first day of school!

Ah! I've still got a whole year before this but this post still made me panic! Dev will do great!

Dev will be great. Boy do I wish Jacie was off to Kindergarten this year!

He will be the coolest kid in class I have no doubt. But don't you wish you could spy on them somehow?

Oh sweet Devlin. You're absolutely right Rachel. Who couldn't fall on live with this kid. The world is brighter since he showed up.

devlin is SO cute! :)

Madison, Madison- Hear our mustang pride! I went to that school the day it opened, and didn't leave until I graduated 6th grade and I loved it. I hope he does too!

Wow! Devlin sure is a cute little student! Is he in "real" kindergarten, or is it a Pre-K? Gosh, if it is real Kindergarten, he will be a whole year ahead of Micah, even though they are less than two months apart in age! Micah starts PreK on Monday. I know for sure that I will be crying! These are our babies!
We sure had fun with you guys! We can't let so much time go by in- between getting together. Micah has asked me almost daily when he will see Devlin again.
I was looking through old pictures last week and came across one of the two of them at Micah's first bday party...they were so cute! Anyways, I asked Micah who was with him in the picture, and he totally knew! He really had a great time playing with him!
Well, apparently I could ramble all night, but for now, I'll let you go!
See ya!

Maelynn, he is in "Young Kindergarten", which is the same curriculum and everything as "real" kindergarten but the class is made exclusively of kids with birthdays between September 1st and December 31st, who are just a little too young for the Kindy cutoff.

At the end of the year, if we decide he's ready he can move up to First grade since he will have done the same kindergarten work as the "real" kindergarteners, but if he's not ready he can do kindy again without having to be "held back". I thought it was the best of both worlds (also, FREE).

He is SO HANDSOME!!! I didn't realize he is the same age as Kenna. She started Kindergarten this year too.
